Stitch Anime TV Series

Post by ichabod »

There’s an intriguing story in yesterday’s news wires about how Disney is producing a new TV version of Lilo and Stitch specifically targeted towards Japanese audiences. The new series, titled Stitch!, which will be produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse (Ninja Scroll, Cardcaptor Sakura), replaces the orphan Lilo with a Japanese girl named Hanako, and transplants the setting from Hawaii to a tropical island in Okinawa, Japan. The series will premiere on Japan’s Disney channel in October.

Coulden't agree more with the comments made on the site mentioned above.

Chris Sander's sold his soul.

His character is probably milked out more than any other classic disney design, with the exception of mickey of course.

3 movies, 2 tv-series, when will it end!!!

I'm afraid quality will go downhill even further, once animated in Japan.

Uh, Chris Sanders isn't even at Disney anymore, therefore I doubt he had anything to do with this. Anyhow, even if he were, Disney would still own the rights to the characters and use them as they wish.

Wha? You mean this series isn't about how Stitch celebrates the Jewish holidays?

The same Chris Sanders who had was dumped by Disney and had his American Dog madeover as soon as he was gone?

What makes you think Sanders has any say in the matter?

(And talking of Bolt, where's the publicity for it? Wall-E is getting more exposure at the moment, and thats months away from Bolt's opening).

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

And anyway, Lilo and Stitch is a fairly new movie compared to Winnie the Pooh. I mean, people will notice if Lilo's not there.*

Dumb, dumb, dumb.

* I'm not implying that people don't remember Christopher Robin, it's just that he's a bit forgotten now.

I guess they think if Lilo is replaced with someone else, it makes it easier for any kid to place in themselves as Stitch's playmate.

I wish Stitch would take a vacation into outer space. He's so used the human's way of life. All he knows about living in outer space are tidbits.

Bolt doesn't come out till late November. Wall-E debuts in late June.

Believe it or not, Stitch is insanely popular in Japan. Like almost as popular as Hello Kitty, Doremon, etc Go to a Disney Store in Japan and you'll see tons and tons of Stitch merchandise.

Reason for the change of Lilio to Hanako is probably due to localization.

This is probably reason why this series going be Japan only.

The animation studio who doing it is MADHOUSE. They are NOT a crappy animation studio house. These are same people who done Ninja Scroll. They are fucking good.

But seriously why the hell you guys getting piss off over this? You guys are acting like a bunch of whiny kids

Yeah, he really is! The past two years, Tokyo Disneyland has had a big Lilo and Stitch's Big Panic event run for around 2 months with Stitch statues and paint doodles and pawprints left by him all over the park and a parade! I was so envious when I first learned about it last year!

It's going to be hard waiting seven months. I'm pretty excited about this show. :float: After the music video Stitch vs. the High School Musical that aired in Japan, I thought we would have to turn to Japan for more shorts and music videos with Stitch. Then here comes this TV series, which it is more than what I expected them to turn out, and it's a nice surprise! :)

I'd watch this, never did care for Lilo too much. Of course since it is only in Japan I won't get to see it.
