I'm a little puzzled as well as to why Disney chose this particular movie to relese as 2 disc. Since I don't own a copy of The Aristocats yet, I'll be getting it though.

It seemed like they should have released Dumbo and Robin Hood as 2-disc as well if they were going to bother doing the re-release.. seems like they only wanted to add the slipcovers and get rid of the gold edition packaging.

That makes me think that the Winnie the Pooh "Friendship Edition" will unfortunately be 1-disc as well. They'll probably use the whole Friendship thing to promote the new TV series "My Friends Tigger and Pooh".

Well, Given that Winnie the Pooh has now being released June 19th my hopes that this will be released in May or June have been blown away.

Perhaps this really will be pushed back to 2008, like someone said a while back. :(

I still think it has a chance of being released this summer, or at the latest this fall. It just seems really weird to show trailers, print advertisements, and create a website for a movie that won't be coming out for over a year. Just think of all the Disney movie's we got late last fall

10/03 The Little Mermaid
10/10 The Fox and the Hound
11/07 Cars
11/28 Robin Hood

Just because The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh's release date has been made official, doesn't necessarily mean that The Aristocats will be postponed for a long time.

BREAKING NEWS....

It looks as though many people's speculations were correct. If you look at the Aristocats DVD website, it had been edited and NO LONGER says anything about 2 disc treatment. Not on the web page, nor on the gold banner along the top of the cover art!! Looks like it will only be a singe disc release.

Wow. It just says "Special Edition." I guess most of us got our hopes up. Luckily, looking at past re-releases of DACs, this was most definitely going to be a single-disc release. Oh well, at least we get a new transfer! That's good, right?

That's lame. I really wish Disney would think things like this through fully instead of getting our hopes up.

Even though I'm a stickler for search and I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere in these sixteen pages, I was too lazy to find the actual Disney site for this.

So I simply typed "aristocats special edition" in google, and came across Australia's ezyDVD listing for the page

The Arisotcats: Special Edition (2 Disc Set)
It's got a release there for June 6, 2007, though there's no bonus features listed yet.

Don't know what that means for us R1ers, what with the original release date having come and gone, and the official site no longer saying anything about it being two discs...

 :brick: :(

This is all I can really say, except for the fact that I find this completely rediculous. To make the same mistake with this after the whole Tarzan SE fiasco... I guess the only explanation would be that they both are two different circumstances that ended with the same outcome. Still, I'm very dissapointed.

Maybe Disney does listen to the members of this forum....

We seem to get more treasures, for instance.

And so many people were saying Aristocats didn't necessary need/deserve the 2disc-treatment when others (Dumbo, Robin Hood) didn't..........

Disney probably does. Since everyone kept saying "Why Aristocats, why not Hunchback or Hercules" instead of "Wow, I'm really glad that Aristocats is getting the attention it deserves", we might have actually got one. But now Disney sees that there is no major interest in the fan base for a 2-disc so they'll just put out one disc. (which is stupid because how will they convince kids who like the current DVD to upgrade when there is only a few bonus features?

I really hope the people who constantly put down the film in this thread feel better than those of us who like the film.

Oh great. That means we'll be seeing a single-disc The Aristocats: 38th Anniversary Groovin' Jazz Edition in May 2008.

Thanks a lot, danfrandes, for constantly suggesting it. :headshake:

And thanks a lot TonyWDA for coming up with "Groovin' Jazz". :P

Oh, do you mean 40th Anniversary Edition of The Aristocats or the Groovin Jazz Edition of The Aristocats? Do you think it will come in March 2008 or May 2008?

Could you pretty please.....LET.It.GO? It was only a joke on another forum.

Escapay, I really think you should see the trailer I have of the upcoming DVD, it clearly states that it's a two disc. We should all know that covers like that are just TENTATIVE. I mean, look at Peter Pan.

This is BS. I'm seriously pissed.

Way to let your fan base down again Disney...

Since this movie was already supposed to be released there is obviously enough material to cover two discs. Why would they decide to drop a whole disc?

It's not like the would lose any business from having the second one, and if anything, more people would buy it for the extra features. Maybe someone who's been around longer can explain it, because I don't get what the benefit would be.

Oh, and just because Aristocats wasn't one of my favourites, I didn't mean to say it doesn't deserve a second disc. Just that I'd like to see other movies that have been more neglected get a better treatment as well.

I've seen the trailer. ;) Of course, I also saw the Tarzan and Emperor's New Groove trailers back in 2005 that touted those were two-discs as well...

Yeah, but I think removing all indication of the term "2-disc" from a website is pretty clear indication of a change. Even the trailer has to be taken with a grain of salt. As others have said, the Tarzan re-release in 2005 was supposed to be a 2-disc in R1; the trailers even SAID so. Why that and Emperor's New Groove got downgraded is beyond me.

My guess with Aristocats is that they intended it to be a 2-disc, but realized there wasn't enough content to fill out that much and/or decided to do a budgetary cut. If they really did downgrade it because of fan reactions, but perhaps we'll see those Hunchback and Hercules 2-discers, afterall.
