I'm still wondering about that whole Goof Troop/Quack Pack thing myself. I'm guessing maybe it's because they weren't as beloved as series like Darkwing Duck and Talespin were. These shows had a much bigger following.

But I'm sooooooo glad that Darkwing Duck and Talespin's DVD's didn't get treated the same way. The amount of episodes for each are good, and at 34.99 I guess that's not bad at all. ^_^

Your confusing origin story, first run and Pilot. A pilot episode specificaly is an epsiode commissioned by the network to test the concept - it it get's positive feedback, a series is commisioned. Goof Troop's lost epsisode, Party Animal, falls into this catagory. These episodes can also be an origin story.

First run is the first episode in the series run

Actually, "first run" refers to a show's original or present airing rotation, not the first episode in the series run. (ex: the Will & Grace finale was the last first run episode of the series) or (ex: the Will & Grace finale originally aired as a 2-hr special in first run.)

While "A pilot episode specificaly is an epsiode commissioned by the network to test the concept", some still mistakenly refer to the first episode as the pilot when it is simply the first "regular" episode.

I know Darkwing has two different versions of episode order. Some put all the ABC episodes at the end even though many of them belong in the beginning and were part of the first season. I hope they put them in REAL order of air dates. I do agree, however that the pilot should be first even if "That Sinking Feeling" was the first true episode aired. If done correctly, "Slaves to Fashion" should be the last episode on the Vol. 1 DVD set. Let's see what happens.

I believe they will start with the syndication episodes order (from "Darkly Dawns the Duck" to "Smarter Than a Speeding Bullet"). We'll just have to see. I can't wait.

I might buy the set because I haven't seen Darkwing Duck in a long time. I think Darkwing Duck is funny. Thanks for sharing the links Luke.

I am so excited to see an official release of this, I've always been a huge fan of the show. And wow, that cover art is mighty spiffy. . . I'm usually the first to complain, LOL! I'm hoping we'll get to see "Hot Spells" on a future volume, it's the only one I've never gotten to see (silly censorship people!!!). . . I'm also praying that there won't be any cuts.

Kinda sad there won't be any extras on sets like these. . . it would be really neat to see any material they'd have on the episodes that were planned before the series got cancelled. I'd also kill to see an interview with Jim Cummings.

I never got why they censored DWD. I haven't seen it in ages, so I don't really know what they cut. I used to watch the original uncut version in the early 90's and it was just fine, I loved the show. How come kids back then could watch it and today's kids can't???

Yeah, it's a pity. Hopefully, they'll put extras in Volume 2. An interview with Jim Cummings would be great (since he's said that Darkwing was one of his favourite characters to play) and also with Christine Cavanaugh (if that was possible!).

From what I've read, apparently "Hot Spells" is about Gosalyn getting a bit jealous of Morgana's magical abilities and decides to make a deal with the devil (who occasionally appeared in the series anyway). . . the kicker is that Gosalyn sells Darkwing's soul in exchange for what she wants.

I guess they had a problem with the whole soul-selling thing.

I haven't seen DWD in several years. But I could buy this if it's a set done right - I seem to remember that this show succeeded quite well in being what it tried to be, so to speak.

Yeah you would think they would bring the "Hot Spells" episode back since it is a funny nod to the Harry Potter films of today. Ya know magic school and all. I remembered really loving this episode. I have looked for it in some of the tapes I have but I must have taped over it at one point...pity.

Darkwing and Gosalyn were visiting Morgana's family. Gosalyn wanted to learn magic and Morgana's father allowed Gosalyn to take a magic class. She somehow made a mistake and made a simple chocolate milkshake instead of whatever impressive thing she wanted to do and the class laughed at her. They told her she had to learn science first which Gosalyn wanted to avoid. After Gos gets laughed at she runs into the school janitor, who is really Beelzebub in disguise. He tricks her into taking a spellbook from the "Forbidden Library" that grants easy magic. The headmaster is so impressed by her supposed "talents" that he asked her to do a presentation.

Now worried that her magic isn't powerful enough, Gosalyn asked the janitor (aka Beezlebub) for help, and he shows her a spell that will "knock 'em dead." At her presentation Gosalyn casts the spell, only to have what the characters refer to as the "Gates of Fire" open up in front of everyone. Beezlebub and his devilish minions appear and begin attacking, but Darkwing steps up to the plate to take them down.

Unfortunately Beezlebub has captured Morgana and has her tied on this stake. Darkwing trades himself (which we can assume is his soul, because later Gosalyn apologizes for "endangering his soul") for Morgana's freedom (although he should've left her there because I really can't stand Morgana...). You do see briefly a dialogue between Darkwing and Beelzebub as they walk through Hell, including Darkwing saying "I LAUGH at your eternal flames, HA!" until Beelzebub shows him his eternal torment.

Gosalyn, Morgana and company work together to re-open the gates and the two go down to save Darkwing. Gosalyn apologizes, and the show ends with her pleading for Darkwing not to take away her comics.

Honestly, I don't find the episode offensive at all. But, like enigmawing said, maybe they had a problem with the soul-selling thing.

And you know, after reading that I'll bet that Disney was too nervous to show it again because of all the controversy surrounding Harry Potter.

It gets even better when he adopts his orphan niece, Gosalyn, who wants to help out with the crimebusting.

On a side note, I don't get why Disney keeps insisting on Gosalyn being Darkwing's niece. Is it so hard to get she's his adopted daughter?

Yeah, that's always bothered me too. . . apparently all the young Disney ducks live with their uncles.

I'm guessing they are going by production order, since DuckTales and Chip 'n Dale went that way. I don't have an official list yet, but I should get the DVD in a week or so.
