Why? Do you not consider the plot to be epic enough?
Not at all. Not much to expand on for a full length Broadway musical and as much as people complained about the "adventurous road trip" element of Frozen, that's pretty much all there is to Tangled.

But more importantly, Disney intentionally moved away from typical Broadway musical style for Tangled and went back to it for Frozen, so I don't see how one could find the former more suited for stage than the latter. The musical sequences in Frozen are dramatic, stagey, and written to be performed by incredible singers. Tangled's are light, poppy, and fun, and they fit the tone of the film, but they just wouldn't cut it on a Broadway stage.

Hopefully the new songs add some flavor to the production, but I still say it belongs on cruise ships and theme parks until I hear more. I'd love to have my mind changed though. I just think it needs more work to be truly Broadway-ready, whereas the groundwork for Frozen is mostly there.

If Tangled was made into a Broadway show I think Idina would make a good Mother Gothel. She has the pipes and the right look for it.

That would be cool, actually. :D

I think they could make Rapunzel work, especially with some of the things Miss Manday came up with. The thing about Menken's soundtracks is that it's easy to make reprises for later moments in the movie. I'd love a "When Will My Life Begin? (Reprise)" woven into a "Mother Knows Best (Reprise)" at the end as Rapunzel's remembers that she's the stolen princess and then confronts Gothel. Especially if Rapunzel does the majority of the latter and Gothel is the one who is all "Um, uh?!" like Rapunzel was when Gothel was scaring her in the first part of the movie--showing the dynamic has changed and Rapunzel has taken her independence back. They'd definitely give Flynn a song, too.

^ That's exactly what I was thinking. :) A "Rapunzel Knows Best" sort of reprise. It would be great showcasing of the character development.

Wow, that would be superb ! Could start from, "Did I mumble, mother …. ?" Gosh, that would be PERFECT ! Brilliant idea !

And wow, that Disney on Ice idea was pretty neat too. If they can manage to put Mermaids on stage, make carpets and nannys fly, they could certainly do hair

Yes, "Rapunzel Knows Best." :P

And I personally would like if they also did a finale/choral reprise of "WWMLB?" at the very end, too, similar to how TLM ends "now we can walk, now we can run," etc. Maybe something like, "Now my/our life/lives can begin."

Exactly what I was thinking too; a duet of Eugene & Rapunzel and the Disney Chorus. Kind of like how Ariel & Eric where included in the Broadway 'Happy Ending' of Mermaid;

'Sailing forward,
Standing steady,
Starting life completely ready …\

'Just you and me,
And I will be
Part of your world !'

Roy Conli reveals that there was a lot of pressure on the studio to make a sequel to Tangled.
He says there was no pressure to build a Big Hero 6 series. Under Lasseter, the decision on sequels always rests with the filmmaker, not the marketing or merchandising departments. “The other great superhero animated film, for me, is The Incredibles, and there’s been a cry for that for years and it looks like it may happen, but it really is the filmmaker (Brad Bird) that will drive that,” Conli says.

Conli even recalls being “pushed heavily” for a sequel to Tangled. “We pulled together the writers and directors and we said, ‘You know, she cut her hair. It’s over!’ Thank goodness there is a sense of propriety in that and they respect that.”

I'm sure the pressure for a Frozen sequel is even bigger now.

But I'm glad they had the sense to dismiss the possibility of a sequel instantly. The hair was cut, the end.

To be honest, I wouldn't mind a sequel to "Tangled" as long as it was done properly. It's understandable why there was much pressure to do it, but at least they made "Tangled Ever After".

Either way, I do respect Roy Conli, he seems like a quite decent and dignified man.

Well, there's always the possibility a sequel will be made 50 years from now when someone else is in charge...

While that first bolded line is probably not true its only hypocrisy if a sequel happens (against the film maker's wish). What John said still holds true so far, the film maker didn't want to do it despite any pressure, and so far that is not happening. And it doesn't say where the pressure was coming from either. That come be from the merch departments and/or fans.

I think there is a lot of potential to having animated shorts to the Classic films instead of automatically thinking sequel sequel sequel. It keeps the characters alive and fresh, and allows audiences to have another opportunity to connect with them. If all the original creators, voice actors etc returned I think its a brilliant idea, a la Tangled Ever After. Its just a question of knowing what to do with said characters in a short; I know Tangled Ever After basically expanded the original ending they were to have of Tangled, but the Toy Story ones are all original ideas. I would like to see another Tangled short as I want to see the characters in action again (though I did just have that with Sofia the First & Rapunzel). And it would be nice to have a short that maybe focused on the main characters rather than sidekicks ? I'm not 100% sure, but isn't Frozen Fever based on Olaf ? Or was that just a rumour ?

Either way, if good sequels aren't on the horizon then I'm happy with having shorts. Heck, I would have a bit of a collapse (in a good way!) if Ron & Jon said 'Hey, we ourselves would like to revisit the characters of Mermaid again in a fully animated short'. Can you imagine ?! I guess some could hate that, but to have Ron, John, Jodi & Alan all involved would be just  I would so be there for that !
