I love Taraji P. Henson so I'm glad she'll be in the movie.

I'm not really feeling the inclusion of the Disney Princesses here. Sounds more like Disney really wants to boost the box office of Wreck-It Ralph 2 by promoting all their other lucrative IPs like Star Wars, Disney Princesses, etc. (will Marvel be in it?) which makes me wonder if they don't have faith in the film itself aside from the guest-stars.

I'm not a big fan of the Disney Princesses interacting with each other either tbh, especially not in a canon film. I'm reminded of Pocket Princesses too, but I don't mean that in a good way. I enjoy it, but I would never want it to be canon especially since it relies more on stereotypes than the actual characters from the films themselves. What's stranger is that the artist/writer of Pocket Princesses was hired by Disney to make a Disney Princess comic book but all the princesses remain in their own worlds and don't interact with each other, and it is only the official roster so no Vanellope, Elsa, Anna, and Moana. Strange that they kept to their rules of keeping the princesses separate for this comic but are willing to forgo that for this film. I guess I'll just pretend that the princesses we see on screen or not the real ones from the original films but just the marketed Disney Princess lineup versions that are plastered everywhere. Since they will all probably be in their Princess franchise looks (Cinderella with blonde hair and a blue dress) or the redesigns, I guess that helps to separate them from the original.

I don't mind the princess cameos, especially with the original voice actors. The Merida joke sounds hilarious--her inclusion was the only thing that annoyed me when I first read this news, but I'm glad the DISNEY princesses turn their noses up at her.

The scene was hysterical. It was kind of Shrekesque though.

Purists will hate it, but those who can laugh at themselves will love it.

I have so many issues with this, I don't know where to start.

• First of all, the princesses aren't meant to interact with each other. When the franchise was being formed in 2000-2001, Roy E. Disney was against it as he believed that lumping the princesses together robs them of their individuality and uniqueness and muddles the settings, eras, and timelines of their respective films. A compromise was reached where even though the princesses can featured together, they can never acknowledge or interact with each other. Roy fought hard to keep the characters and their worlds separate and this scene undoes all that. This scene is not some commercial or promotional video or part of a TV show that's not canon and you can just ignore. It's in a WDAS film making it canon which gives the way the princesses are depicted there, weight and significance.

• The issue of who is and who isn't a Disney princess if further complicated. Disney doesn't consider princesses just female characters who are royalty but whether or not they're part of the Disney Princess® brand. That's why characters who are princesses in their respective films aren't part of the line-up (e.g. Eilonwy), while characters who aren't, are (e.g. Mulan). Since 2010, in order for new characters to be inducted into the franchise, they need to have a coronation ceremony. This scene includes Vanellope, Elsa, Anna, and Moana who haven't been crowned and aren't part of the franchise but are grouped together with the official ones and are acknowledged as princesses, creating even more confusion and inconsistency.

• The princesses behave out of character as they tease and make passive-aggressive quips. The princesses are treated in a irreverent, mocking manner and are criticized for their gender politics. The whole scene is gratuitous and self-referential and comes across as an ill-conceived, fan-made product.

• The 2D princesses are rendered in CG, further ignoring their hand-drawn roots. I know the movie's CG, but they could have animated them in 2D and made a joke about the difference in medium. It could have worked.

I never really liked the rules for the Disney Princess merchandise, but to be honest I've always had some issues with the lumped-up overly-pink Disney Princess line; the decision to only include the most marketable characters (regardless of royal stature), to keep the characters in completely separate worlds yet allowing them to pose together as long as they don't acknowledge each other's existence, and dumbed down into doing little aside from smiling and looking pretty (or more recently, posing in a more sassy, "empowered" manner). I wouldn't consider it a rip-off of Pocket Princesses at all, as the concept of letting characters interact outside of their film worlds as more or less actors has been around far longer (I also doubt they're going to be chibified for this film ). Plus characters from different Disney films have been allowed to interact with one another in certain situations long before any of these arbitrary rules came up for the princess merchandise line.

Disney animation has broken the fourth wall before, and the self-awareness of the characters in Wreck-It Ralph (Ralph, Vanellope, etc. know they are video game characters) is the perfect setting to let loose and have a little fun like this. I'm guessing the Disney/Pixar/Star Wars/Marvel characters residing within the world of the OhMyDisney.com website are not a part of the canon from the original films, that they're simply the online versions of the same IP property. Just as the Totoro plush we see in Toy Story 3 would never be confused with the "real" Totoro from the Ghibli film, as it's an entirely different canon.

Anyway, I heard people were howling with laughter at the expo; I was myself when I read a more detailed description of the sequence at another site. Can't wait to see it for myself.

-Yes, it's the original signature gowns AND designs. But everyone, including the CGI girls, are designed more like a computer style! They look great! Snow is so cute! Their entrance is storyboarded and everything is fully animated, except the Star Wars part is in progress.

I had the pleasure of seeing this again at the Princess panel. Now that it was easier to understand, here's my description of the Princess scene:

So, Yasss is showing Ralph and Vanellope around OH MY DISNEY. Suddenly When You Wish Upon a Star plays. There are fan girls screaming, red carpet, photography etc. Ralph and Vanellope are confused:

Yasss: These images of perfection are known as the princesses.
Vanellope: Oh my gosh, I have to mess with them.
Yasss: Oh no, they are strictly off-limits. Now come on, my little ducklings.
Vanellope: But, that's all I want to do now.
Hey Ralph, thinking what I'm thinking?
Ralph: That Yasss is awesome? (It's clear he likes her)
Vanellope: No, let's mess with the princesses!
Ralph: No, kid! Yasss said no!
Vanellope: Come on, Ralph. You always follow authority.
Ralph: No I don't.
Yasss: Yo! Ralph, get your butt here now!

You know the Batman transition in the old series? This time, it's the Disney castle!

Vanellope is in the center of the room. She's on the bed. All of the princesses are in tank tops and sweats. They surround her. Cinderella says something like BRB at midnight. Moana's tank is orange with Tamota and SHINY.

Cinderella: Oh hail, Princess Vanellope, ruler of Sugar Rush. Queen of comfort!
Everyone: YEAH!
Vanellope: Oh, guys! Stop it. You know, you guys are great.
Ariel: Oh, my goodness! I love this---what's it called again? Shirt! *says something like I've collect everything, but never a shirt. She starts singing Part of your World*
ALL of the Princesses: NO NO NO NO NO!
Vanellope: I love you guys. I thought you were models of perfection, but no! You guys are flawed
Snow: I have a confession. I'm legally blind. I can't see without contacts. Or my glasses. *wears glasses. Looks just like Dopey and the diamond*

Cinderella and Aurora tease him playfully.

Cinderella: Okay, *Star Wars robot name*. Thanks for telling us.
Aurora: Now, Cinderella! He hates being called that. Thanks, R2-D2!

CP30: Oh, the disrespect! Do the job, they said. You are great with princesses. You'll love this!

CP30 leaves.

Aurora: Ahhhhhhh, never gets old!
*Cinderella and Aurora fist pumps sparkles*
Vanellope: Guys, it's been great! I got to go. You know, I think you guys help me realize the problem between me and Ralph.
Moana: You are so cool, Vanellope. It was great to meet you!

Hope you guys love it! Does it fit? Too early to tell, but it is weird for them to dump a popular franchise on a unpopular movie. But, it's such a likeable, sweet, and clever scene. I think everyone will love it. It's such a treat!

I forget Cinderella (I have a feeling it was blue), her post-Vanellope makeover was a silver sweater and gray sweatpants with hair down and blue earrings and Ariel had a new white dress on, I faintly remember! Ariel had a white crop shirt on after.

If the scene was self-contained and done as some sort of a sketch or a special, I don't think people would react negatively to it. You can already see comedic princess stuff like that all over BuzzFeed and YouTube. The problem here is bigger than that: it's Disney shoving their IPs down everyone's throat in some weird corporate synergy experiment to market a sequel (to an already bland movie) which I can only imagine as being so mediocre to need such an advertising crutch.

Another issue is that the princesses (as well as Star Wars droids) originated in cinematic form, so there is absolutely no logic in them being featured in this way in a movie that deals with video games/internet. If it was a Roger Rabbit sequel, sure, fine, makes sense. But this is clearly a calculated move designed to give worldwide attention to a corporate-blog-disguised-as-a-fan-page which Oh My Disney is, and function as Disney's showcase of all the franchises they own. Wouldn't a room full of internet browsers or emojis hanging out make more sense instead of Disney characters?

The original movie lost a lot of points from me for not using hand-drawn animation in a meaningful way, and now they're doing it again. The pessimist in me feels like this might be a testing ground for something else with these characters, but this marketing tactic is clearly working -- I don't like this idea, but I plan on seeing this movie in a theater, if only to see how bad they'll mess up the princesses, both visually/animation- and personality-wise.

I have to agree with this. Maybe the scene will work better when it's seen on the actual scene, but right now it feels more like a parody which isn't fitting for a feature film imo.
