Haha true, but there is crazy love for Cinderella too, and that was assured to sell millions of copies......so don't know what went so wrong for hers, and seemingly so right for Mermaid ?!

It still hasn't even been announced over in the UK yet, and isn't up for preorder or anything on amazon :(

Well, the UK release for the Little Mermaid hasn't been officially announced. A member over at Blu-ray.com had contacted Disney UK who provided the release date.

This is really interesting.

The colors look like the original colors from 1989!!
Which means that the previous "restoration" was complete crap, as it doesn't look anything like the original colors.
This gives me hope for the future of Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast restorations.

Hopefully some people on this board also learn that the original trailers, cinema cards, laserdisc, screenhots in books, are a very good source, because those colors look exactly like this new restoration. So they might want to take their words back when I told them this after the previous restoration.

What I want is a real making of.

The same way it was done for Aladdin.

This movie must have been really hard to make given the fact that´s under water. So I want to know how they could do such a masterpiece in 1989. I want to know all.

Ehmm... no. F** no.

I'm sorry, but the trailers and LaserDiscs for these movies were sourced from either film or bad film. Contrast, saturation and colour timing is totally screwed and they didn't have the restoration tools they have now. LaserDiscs and VHS cassettes also had poor colour reproduction by definition.

The fact that it might (source?) look closer to the LaserDisc has nothing to do with whether or not the LaserDisc was accurate. A dare you yo compare the LaserDiscs of Pocahontas, HoND, Fantasia, Snow White and tell us which seems more accurate colour-wise.

Compare this to your Blu-ray and tell me which is more accurate.

Can someone point me to some LaserDisc shots? I've seen some around, but I can't remember where.

Here's a VHS trailer for The Little Mermaid

Just got back from a Q&A with Pat Carroll in Orlando, FL ... she said that she just recently recorded voice work for The Little Mermaid 3D, and that the film was adding additional footage intended back in 1989. It's possible Disney scrapped the plans to animate new footage, as I'd have thought they'd be promoting the hell out of an "All-New Scene", but according Pat, we can expect something more than just a new restoration. Holding onto my Limited Issue and Platinum DVD's just in case this turns out weird.

She also mentioned how much she despised The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea.

Oh, I sincerely hope they're still planning to include the new scene. :biting:

Yeah, I almost fell out of my chair. I was too shocked to ask whether it was a musical number or not. I wish I had kept my wits about me.

On a side note: She was such a kind and energetic woman, she proudly proclaimed that she just turned 86 and though her legs might not work very well, she is having the time of her life as an old lady. So inspiring. Meeting her was a dream come true.

I'm taking this bit of news with a grain of salt... I'd just be flabbergasted if it were true and we hadn't heard anything about it already-- not even rumors.

I'm sure Pat Carroll knows what she's talking about. The thing is because of the cancellation of the film's theatrical release they might have cancelled their plans to animate this scene as well. I really hope that's not the case.

Yeah, I heard it straight out of the Sea Witch's mouth and I still find it hard to believe that Disney would keep news THAT big, a secret. Then again, they are being pretty secretive about an entirely new animated feature (Frozen) that were it not for fans leaking info and photos, no one would know it was even coming out this fall. Here is hoping that Pat is correct and this is just more numbskull lack of information on the part of Disney marketing.

Just because something was recorded, doesn't mean it will necessarily make it to the final product. Why don't we just wait for a real announcement and see?
