From Walt Disney Animation Studios there are strong possibilities that SNOW QUEEN in fact, at last, revised in 2008 with GOOSE CHASE by Joe Harsha. Finally GOOSE CHASE cancelled to their similarities with Rapunzel. For SNOW QUEEN:


* Now, Alan Meken and Glenn Slater are composing for Rapunzel. In the middle of next year, 2010, Menken will begins to adapt and make adjustments to some of the songs from the musical SNOW QUEEN when he wrote for Disney TokyoSea cancelled in 2007, supposedly awaiting the green light for an animated movie by Disney Animation.

* Lasseter is the intention of consolidating two strong teams somewhat differentiated by technology: 2D and 3D. The idea is not to break the groups by hiatuses that are formed by the bad pre-production schedules. The idea is, immediately, after Princess And The Frog Frog and the short The Ballad of Nessie, will begins production of the next hand-drawn work, and Lasseter could have read the opinions of thousands of Disney fans, and review of the famous Hans Christian Andersen fable.

* Already, there is decision about the next 2D Disney project, but in a Disney as we know today as dynamic, where a film is made in only two years, is thrown overboard precious material, anything can happen until you get there in 2011.

* In 2001-2003, SNOW QUEEN was planned as the great return to classic tales, was always intended as CGI (Rapunzel style) including an ambitious project that was offered to John Lasseter or Buz Luhrmann as director, and master animators like Glen Keane himself was in charge of design and animation. Sensuality and love triangle were some of the adaptations, BUT these being nothing: the resignation of Glen Keane team by Rapunzel...

I don't think this movie is happening. Yes, a second handdrawn film is coming after Princess and the Frog. But it won't be anything we know of.

Pure speculation. Those sketches are fanmade. The artist knows how to draw, but he skips way too many basics when it comes to character design. And besides I would hope Disney has better scanners, because they're poorly scanned into the computer

If you want some speculation, my guess is Musker and Clements will pitch and direct the next handdrawn film as well. They're a golden duo and close friends of Lasseter. They all went to college together I think. Lasseter knows these two guys know what a Disney film should be better than anyone. So as far as speculation goes, that's really the only solid thing right now.

In the end, WDAS under Lasseter no longer blabs to the media or Jim Hill. How often do we pick up on rumors coming from Pixar? The Monsters, Inc sequel is the only thing I can think of. When we find out something about Disney's animation slate, it'll be straight from the horse's mouth.

Not yet official, but many sources to Walt Disney Animation, and all that came out of what was said by Marlon West in WonderCon/San Francisco, to make 2D movies every 2 ½ years.

Lasseter access internet and can read that the favorites cancelled Disney movies are SNOW QUEEN, FRAIDY CAT and AIDA. He takes into account our views and ideas (I think the future community ARE YOU 23 will be contact point) because he and Zemeckis are very angry with the directors of Disney Studios for failure to promote THE ANIMATION. Disney Studios only promotes Pixar films, but Lasseter want same opportunities for ALL ANIMATION: Disney Animation and ImageMovers Digital. He needs our help and support.

For example, HSM3 vs BOLT. Disney Studios preferred promoting HSM3.

And the live-action adaptation of AIDA has been canceled as well, although iT' s another story.

"Master animator Glen Keane took advantage of this break in The Snow Queen's development to announce that he was leaving the project. After decades of doing stellar work on other people’s pictures, Keane has finally decided that he wants to direct a feature of his very own. So Glen is now supposedly holed up in his garret at the Disney lot, where he’s trying to come with a feature length story line for a film that's based on Rapunzel. Now Disney studio execs were understandably upset when Keane upped and quit The Snow Queen, a project extremely important to WDFA’s future since it will be their first feature length cartoon based on a classic fairy tale since the original Aladdin back in 1992. Mouse House execs are really counting on this movie to help the Walt Disney Company reconnect with its increasingly disenfranchised customers. So to have a big gun like Glen opt not to work on that project anymo re (and take a flyer on something as flaky as Rapunzel) was really a blow. That said, Disney execs were still thrilled that Keane opted to stay at WDFA."

Those drawings are creepy and very unappealing.

The Snow Queen is going into production at Disney soon.

That was in preproduction about 10 years ago and did not go anywhere...
but now it might work in the series – queens and princesses. at least the skin color shouldn’t be an issue anymore.

I don't know what to think of this. Are these just rumors, or can this be trusted? I'm not sure.

If it's true, this sounds great. Hans Bacher and Harald Siepermann are two very talented artists. But I had no idea they were somehow involved in a Disney-project. Dutch and German animation fans may know them for their work on the 'Alfred J. Kwak' animation series and comic books.

There have been many "boring and Simplistic" adapted to full-length features. Mostly based off of picture books one can read in 5 minutes, so it's not unheard of.

My guess is the art shown on the blog is of the Troll? from the beginning who makes the mirror which shatters.

Also, Divinty Snow Queen isn't really all that boring or simplistic. Gerda is going to rescue Kay, her childhood friend (though in the Hallmark it might have been because she loves him) and meets different characters along the way. There's a lot of potential in the story, and if done right it could probably be on part with the other classics.

Alan Menken was in Milan (Italy) for the premiere of the musical Beauty and the Beast and various Italians medias did a series of questions about his future in Disney:
