Sequels you like
What are the Disney animation sequels that you like? I personally love both Aladdin sequels, BATB: Enchanted Christmas, and TLK 1 1/2.

I loved Lion King 1 1/2, too! Kronk's New Groove was good, not near as good as the first one, but we still liked it. I liked Mulan II also.

In all honesty, I haven't actually seen many of the DTV sequels. However, the ones that I have seen have been a mixed bag. Some are abysmal (Belle's Magical World, anyone?), some are only really deserving of a 5/10 rating at most, and the remaining few are fun little outings that just pale in contrast to the original movie. The Return of Jafar and Cinderella 2 (yes, I think it's not that bad...) probably fall into the latter category for me. I don't think that I'd go as far as to actually own a cheapquel of sorts, though.
EDIT: As people are listing theatrical sequels not made by the Toon Studios, then The Rescuers Down Under, Toy Story 2 and Fantasia 2000 would definetely make it into a list of my top 30 or so Disney related favourites, and I am glad to own each on various formats.

I think that Lady and the Tramp II is definitely one of the better sequels. It is also one of the best single-disc sequel DVDs as well (commentary; making of; 3 Pluto shorts and the inevitable game).
The story may be a simple role reversal - Scamp tries to fit in with the 'tramp' world, and meets a down-to-earth 'lady' - but there is a lot to be said for that. It instantly conjures up the familiar aspects of the original while giving us a 'whole new world' to explore. The animation is particularly good for the sequels of this era, and it was obviously a labour of love for those involved (this was one of the DisneyToon Australia productions, I believe).
Plus, the lead character - Scamp - does have a history in the world of Disney Comics, so it is not as much of a 'sacrilege' as people would lead you to believe.
I also thought that the two Lilo & Stitch sequels (Stitch! The Movie and Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch) have definitely been in the spirit of the original, and the latter was particularly touching towards the end. Finally, although it is not an official 'sequel' (but rather three episodes of an aborted TV series strung together), Atlantis: Milo's Return was definitely a lot of fun. Only wish that they'd continued the series!

I really like both Aladdin sequels, The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride, 101 Dalmatians 2: Patch Adventure and Lady and the Tramp 2.
Favorite real sequel The Rescers Down Under.

One of the best sequals I've ever seen was "The Rescuers Down Under".
Lion King 1 1/2 is an average (and hillarious) parody-sequal but simply didn't have the time to buy it on DVD. Lady and the Tramp II and Aladdin sequals are straight ok. And the rest of the sequals didn't quite interest me to watch.
EDIT: I forgot to mention about Toy Story 2, but I'll give it as a honorary mention for being one of the best sequals coming from Pixar.

The only true sequels that have ever been released as far as I am concerned are the ones that made it to the theater first and there aren't too many of those as you know.
The Rescuers Down Under - it was one of the best and in some ways better than "The Rescuers" I think.
Toy Story 2 - another of the better sequels and it made a good showing in the theaters.
Aladdin, and Aladdin & The King of Thieves were both really good. And both did well in the theaters. "Return of Jafar" suffered badly from the lack of original cast member Robin Williams, and Gilbert Godfreid's horrible grating voice was way over done.
As far as the other direct-to-video (I don't use DTV because that stood for Dance Television Videos when the Disney Channel ruled the airwaves) movies, "The Lion King 1 & 1/2" was not bad, "Lady and the Tramp 2" was actually pretty good, but as for "Mulan II", or "Atlantis, Milo's Return" - they were both abyssmal.

"The Rescuers Down Under" and "Fantasia 2000" are probably considered Disney's "best sequels" as they were both made at the Disney studio and are 2 of the 44 animated classics!
They both are great films also because "Down Under" actually improves over the original both visually and story-wise, and while "Fantasia 2000" isn't quite as good as the original, it still offers terrific new sequences and is a better film to watch than Fantasia if you have less time on your hands.
While Toy Story 2 is a Pixar film, it's still is an amazing sequel that is just as great if not better than the original.
As far as "DTV's" go, the only one I "loved" was "The Lion King 1 1/2" (Duh!), however "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride", "Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure", "102 Dalmatians: Patch's Londen Adventure" and "Return to Neverland" were all really decent IMO.
I've hated all the others I've seen though(haven't seen all of them though).

King of Thieves did not reach theatres. Heck, it's not even a widescreen movie. It was made strictly for home entertainment.dvdjunkie wrote:Aladdin, and Aladdin & The King of Thieves were both really good. And both did well in the theaters.
My favourite is probably The Lion King II: Simba's Pride. It's the only cheapquel I feel was done in spirit of the original classic, and not just as a money-making tool. I'm excluding of course Fantasia 2000, Toy Story II and Rescuers Down Under. They're a whole different league of sequel entertainment.
