Re: Will Disney Ever Recover?

If Disney survived the 2000s and 1970s era flops, they will be fine now. If there's a company that is known for having dark years before coming back stronger than ever, it's them.

Re: Rank the Big Four, with a twist!

I'm going to do this where I give each movie a 1-4 points based on where I rank it in each category, then get the average to see which I prefer overall for the last category! - hero/heroine - protagonist 1. Belle (her story/personality has gotten so misconstrued over the years (girl with stockholm s...

Re: Oscar for Best Animated Feature 2023

Wish really needed this nomination to have any hope of getting an Oscar nom. If it didn't show up at the Globes, it would have been curtains for it. But it beating Ninja Turtles means it still has some life awards-wise.

Re: Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

I'll believe this movie is happening when the cameras actually start rolling, but the second one also was sort of in-and-out of production for a while before it actually started being made. Unlike most of the other live-action remakes, I think the Maleficent series is actually aging surprisingly wel...

People thinking this was a last-minute change keep forgetting that Martin Klebba said like 2 years ago that he was playing Grumpy.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Saw it last night, spoilers ahead . Good things: - Halle in general was a wonderful screen presence. Fantastic voice and very beautiful. I thought her and Jonah had excellent chemistry. I actually bought that they would be into each other. Them being into adventuring together was a nice addition and...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I wouldn't take Bailey seeming "wooden" in a couple clips much to heart. The premiere reactions all indicate she is the standout performance of the movie (with McCarthy following her), so I'm guessing her performance all works within the context, and just doesn't pop in a single short clip.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Well then, hope you keep the same narrative about black, asian, polynesian etc people being racist if Mulan, Tiana, Aladdin etc are made white  Ah there it is, the same racist arguing point that's been made over and over since Bailey's casting was announced. If you don't understand the differe...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

If we agree that when Disney makes an adaptation (not remake) of an existing story, the design of the characters become THE most popular depiction of it (as in, when we think of the beast, we think of Disney's depiction; when we think of SW, we think of Disney's depiction)... then how would/do the ...

Re: Peter Pan & Wendy (Live-Action)

Watched this last night. I honestly can't muster up a lot of emotion towards it because I mostly found it very bland. Sure it's "better" than say Pinocchio , but way more forgettable. Just kind of competent but boring. I found the cinematography incredibly dark. I was watching it while the...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Saw another TV spot with Scuttle and Awkwafina is very annoying in it. She talks as if the movie takes place in 2023, they probably let her improvise again  Buddy Hackett would have sounded very "modern" to audiences in the late 80s (as Ariel was like prototypical 80s heroine/engien...

You know, you could make your own posts about those things that excite you, but clearly you're struggling to find any as much as I am if I'm the only thing you can find to talk about. :P Okay, how about this: I think Melissa McCarthy is going to be fantastic and a scene-stealer as Ursula. Any appre...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

I have found this thread (just like most threads on this forum) very useful for finding the most up-to-date info on new Disney movies. But boy does it feel like this one has really lost the plot. It's like a continuous rotation of "something new and vague is revealed" (i.e. a toy or a book...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

Her "final" design wasn't based on a scorpion fish or a manta ray, but some of her "original" designs were. No need to over-analyze a caption that is just poorly worded

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

That Ursula caption is obviously referring to the animated version (hence "her original design"). There are many concept drawings of her as a scorpion fish and a manta ray, before they settled on octopus/squid. They aren't saying the live action is based off of those fish.

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

So if the remakes don't have lasting value no matter what, then what's the harm in giving a black actress more visibility and a nice pay check? Seems like that's even more incentive to change it up. I don't think it's at all accurate that casting a black actress has "shielded" the movie fr...

Re: The Little Mermaid (Live-Action)

You would never guess Ariel is black from the back if that is indeed she. The skin on her arm is the same shade as Jodi’s. Makes me wonder what’s the point... The point is she's a tremendous singer and (probably) a charismatic actress. Claiming her casting is pointless because of an extremely low-r...
