Hollywood went widescreen in the mid fifties. Try to find me a 1.37 film from the 60's on. No Dr. Strangelove doesn't count. Nor the Coppola movie.

Just remember that a Technicolor film is in black and white and black and white doesn't fade or darken with age. (and Tech IB color neither) so you can reconstruct the original color again. If you know what it is.

Re: Old Disney Classics

.It even shows an example of one of the things I noticed the restoration did, it made some of the outlines thinner and even disappear. Ok I'm not saying that this is what's hapening here, but somtimes a characteristic of higher resolution images is lines that are thinner while on low resolution ima...

"Snow White was released at a time when virtually every feature film was black and white. Since critics feared audiences couldn't tolerate the bright colors associated with animated cartoons for the length of a feature, the color palette for Snow White was given careful consideration." Ex...

Ok. Where do I start , where can I go that I haven't been before? Sequential 3-strip Technicolor is a black and white color separation process, with subsequent color dye transfer prints . In the Disney Technicolor camera black and white film is used and the cel+background are shot through 3 color fi...

The Bourne Ultimatum is next Tuesday too. I'll be enjoying that on HD DVD.
The Bourne is not Disney. Pirates is. It was fun to read. Nice job up there.

As I'm sure you do know, alea jacta est. ;)

TM2-Megatron, you sound like the HD DVD forum. Have you turned to the Darkred side? :p "mandatory DD+ and DTHD" indeed. Blu-ray has uncompressed lossless high-bit Linear PCM, why would "mandatory" lossy DD+ and compressed DTHD be an advantage. They can be included as options on a...

Re: Disney supports 3 layer HD DVD format

Hah. The FUD spreads far. It's amazing Disney supports new 3 layer HD DVD format. While Disney supported Blu Ray in the first place, it looks like they're turning to the new 3 layer HD dvd now. This is remarkable, as members of the Blu Ray association usually stay away from the official meetings. It...

The only question, to my mind, is whether you have to buy a different player just for HD/Blu-ray? If so, I'll pass. I don't think a higher resolution is going to drastically affect the way I view a film--especially since, I'm guessing, the creators never even considered the idea of the film being t...

Correction > HD DVD won't have anything to offer in this regard as Disney is Blu-ray exclusive. Yes - for now! Many compagnies have switched formats and the war is not over yet... Can you give me the list? The only movie studio that has released exclusively in the US on hddvd is Universal. Paramoun...

Howard Stringer, Sony Corporation of America's CEO, told the AP news agency that he believes the two formats are now at a stalemate. "It's been a difficult fight. We were trying to win on the merits, which we were doing for a while, until Paramount changed sides." However, Stringer said t...

Any Super-35 movie negative scanned at 2K (Lord Of The Rings, Pirates, etc) is scanned at 1080p, TM2-Megatron. So yes for theatre. In fact the active vertical image scanned for those "Scope" presetation films is around 800 pixels.

I think when Jordan says cellos he means cels :) Snow White was scanned at 4k resolution if I'm not mistaken. Jordan I think you have a little mix up in how film/digital transfers work. The film is a done thing . At least for old films , so what most people call the "Master" is the origina...
