It's not really unbelievable at all they have been notorious through the years especially when it came to releasing the old classic live action films not to release them in the original aspect ratio. They arn't like Warners who always seem to release films in their OAR. With Disney besides recent f...

It is unbelievable that Disney is releasing a pan-and-scan job of a CinemaScope movie in 2011. Total Fail.

I just got copies of The Sword and the Rose, Almost Angels and Moon Pilot from DMC. I disagree about your assessment of the quality. While The Sword and the Rose appears to be a different master than the laserdisc, it's definitely not a great-looking picture. Almost Angels looks even worse, like an ...

You know I for one would be very interested in reading a biography of Tommy Kirk. Tab Hunter and Farley Granger have both written biographies recently that gave a lot of insight of what it was like to be a closeted star in the studio system. Kirk's story would be fascinating. I happen to be a small ...

Both Scandalous John and Smith! are available for sale now. The website lists Scandalous John as being 2.35:1 and Smith! as 1.78:1. If that is true and if both are anamorphic, maybe someone over there is listening to us? I'd like confirmation that they really are widescreen before I place an order....

I've even seen 1.85:1 movies on 2.35:1 screens with pillarboxes... and I've never seen a 1.**:1 movie or a 2:**:1 movie with letterboxes or pillarboxes on their own size screen. You're contradicting yourself drfsupercenter. I think we're all confused about what you are talking about. If a movie was...

I've even seen 1.85:1 movies on 2.35:1 screens with pillarboxes... Um, what's wrong with that? A 1.85:1 SHOULD HAVE pillarboxes when projected on a 2.35:1 screen. Would you rather they cropped it to 2.35:1 to fit the screen? Are you saying that the movie was not projected correctly just because the...

Re: So Dear to My Heart DVD

I will tell you, I'm very puzzled by the cover and back art treatment. As you can see from Poppins#1's cover display, Disney has placed Luana Patton's character at the center of the collage, relegating Bobby Driscoll to the side in the distance. On the back cover, Luana is holding Danny the Lamb, a...

I found this reference in Leonard Maltin's book "The Disney Films" which was originally published in 1973. This may be one of the sources that started the rumor that SD was filmed for TV. <i>"Disney later revealed that the story was being originally considered as a TV series, and the ...

First of all, let me say I haven't read through this entire thread - way too much repetitive ranting going on. But one statement I keep seeing over and over again is that "The Shaggy Dog" was made for TV, then released theatrically instead, so that the open-matte version must be correct. H...

Trust me, I know what I heard. There's even a 2.0 truly separated stereo music track on the Spanish track. Listen to it, it's actually pretty cool. Plus, on the DVD menu of both DVDs, the music is in stereo (use headphones to really hear the effect). I don't doubt that it is a totally different mix...

According to these two reviews: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/pooh.html http://www.ultimatedisney.com/pooh-friendship.html It's a 5.1 (though subtle) mix. I have the first DVD and it is definitely 5.1 I don't know what the VHS sounded like, but perhaps it was mono that had been stereo enhanced or ma...

Of the new exclusive titles, I only ordered "So Dear to My Heart" as it was the only one available in it's original aspect ratio. After I receive it and check it out, I will check back with a mini-review and screencaps.

Aaron, good review on That Thing You Do extended edition. It has always been a fave of mine, and I was very happy with the extended cut, which helped to flesh out the story. I'm not sure why you find the ending to be lackluster, it always seemed to be appropriate to me. And one thing you didn't ment...
