Loomis, what's the general atmosphere of the film festival? I've always wanted to go to one and have always wondered what it actually feels like to be surrounded by fellow film lovers. Also, do you find it hard to digest all these films in rapid succession? I've heard from some that it's hard to mak...

Not if it's to make ugly and sarcastic remarks about comments made DAYS ago. However, "saying something against Prince Eric" seems to be in vogue these days, so his comments and the two supporting posts are not at all surprising.

Is Ka-Chow some type of code word for "foot in mouth." :? Something is telling me you didn't see Cars and that you just say you did cause you were trying to fit in. I mean seems suspicious you didn't understand the most obvious catch-phrase from that film. Yeah, and it was used in ...

June 17, 2006 Nacho Libre Jared Hess accomplished a major feat with his debut feature Napoleon Dynamite in creating a doped up piece of philosophy that pandered to the higher sensibilities of the doofus crowd. Psuedo-art house efforts like Dynamite are almost always dumb and inconsequential, but the...

Even if there was, any reviewer who focuses on THAT of all things to assess the merits of a movie comes of (sic) as fussy, trite, and clueless, in my opinion. Not unlike someone who fancies himself as a reviewer and takes trivial potshots at other reviewers in the process of critiquing a movie, eh?...

I'm leaving...but I'll be back!

Well guys, it looks like I'll be absent from the boards for at least six weeks starting the beginning of July. I'm going to be studying abroad in Beijing, China and while I do think I'll have internet access during my stay there, I don't think I'll have the time - the program is academically rigorou...

June 14, 2006 Cars Cars is definately different from Pixar's previous canonized works, and I think it's because it does not even remotely adhere to the supposed "formula" that the CG giant has been producinging the past ten years, or at the very least, it certainly doesn't feel like it, wh...

So all studios should just do away with their marketing divisions and let the craft do the talking? In an ideal world, that would make sense, but that's not the case now, is it? Advertising builds buzz, buzz builds excitement, and as far as I see, practically every household in America that has a t...

If Pixar are so well-loved and admired by the public, surely all this pre-pre-pre release hype isn't needed. So all studios should just do away with their marketing divisions and let the craft do the talking? In an ideal world, that would make sense, but that's not the case now, is it? Advertising ...

No one I know is complaining, and the only people I am aware of that do have problems with the trailers are those on internet forums that have an innate grudge against anything that steals Disney's fire. Well I don't know where you've been, but that first Cars teaser had A LOT of criticism. ...

As far as marketing blitz, I think downing Pixar for that is just plain silly. Marketing is a part of the industry, whether you like it or not, and their year-in-advance campaigns have yet to fail them. I, for one, adore their trailers. They do what teasers are supposed to do: reel in potential aud...

I didn't get to see the trailer while it was online, but I'm intrigued by the talent involved with the project. For some reason, know one here seems to pay attention to the actual creatives behind these movies, instead just focusing on the studios themselves. Brad Bird is directing this. Let me repe...

I am currently watching, but don't have the movie finished yet, Bend it like Beckham (sp?) Finish it! It's one of the best movies of 2003, and beats the pants off the other big ethnic comedy of the time, My Big Fat Greek Wedding . Definately not as laugh-out-loud funny, but definately more revelato...

Switch the two around, then I'd at least believe you. What was decent about The Lion King? Just the colors and artwork. The characters were extremely sad cookie-cutter cut-outs of characters from countless other kids' animated films. The only "life" that comes through in them is from the ...

The last time I did two movies in a day was back in 2003 when I saw White Oleander and Tuck Everlasting. It's not hard for me to sit through several movies at a time, but it all depends on the quality of what I'm seeing. Unfortunately, both of these ventures were rather forgettable.

Weinstein making a live-action Mulan? I don't know, maybe it's too many years of Katzenberg, but I can't help but  -Aaron Why? The Weinstein produced-movie will probably have nothing in relation to the Disney film. There has yet to be a definitive film of the Mulan story, and it's one worth c...

May 27, 2006 Over the Hedge Bruce Willis was horrible in his first animated outing as the role of Spike in one of the Rugrats movies. His performance was too transparant, which can also describe the canon of Dreamworks animated features. So, with those precedents set, I can't even begin to describe ...

It's not as bad as some of the critics are saying it is, but it's definately a step down from X2: X-Men United. :(
